Digging Into the Discipline of Drawing Near to God
A BIBLICAL DISCIPLINE, NOT A MYSTICAL EXPERIENCE:
The Bible calls us over and over throughout its pages to “draw near” our “come near” to God. We constantly see God reaching out to humanity, humanity failing causing separation, and God reaching out to us once again. However, the phrase “draw near” has become such common vernacular in our teaching, in our music, even in our prayers and conversation we rarely ever explore what it really means. I would suggest to you today that drawing near to God is more than a simple trope repeated as a feel good mantra for the spiritual, it is a discipline that must be cultivated in the life of every believer. I think this discipline is often ignored in the life of many proclaimed believers, and one we must be intentionally cultivate in our own lives. The past few weeks we have reflected on the role and impact of the Holy Spirit in our lives, I believe this is topic of “Drawing Near” to God is one of critical importance to believers, but here in this building today, as each one of you sits here individually and as a corporate body I pray that this study spurs our hearts to draw into God both personally and as a fellowship.
